The Philodendron pothos that vine are also referred to or often mistaken as pothos. These vining philodendrons have wider and rounder heart shaped leaves compared to Epipremnum aureum pothos. Also, they have the ability to climb up, not just trail. When they are growing new leaves they tend to point or grow up in search of something to grab on to. 

Vining philodendron and pothos varieties are definitely some of the most popular houseplants around. In fact, they are often mistaken for one another. Both belong to the Araceae family (aroid plant family). However, they are different plants with distinct characteristics and needs.

Philodendron Heartleaf is often confused with the Jade pothos. It’s all green and it has no variegation in it. The only difference is in the shape of their leaves. This species has been known by a variety of botanical names. Specifically, Philodendron hederaceum, Philodendron scandens, and Philodendron cordatum.

Neon Philodendron or Lemon Lime Philodendron
The Lemon Lime Philodendron or Neon Philodendron looks very similar to the Neon Pothos. In fact, its color looks almost exactly like the Neon Pothos. Both plants have heart-shaped leaves. Although, Lemon Lime Philodendrons have leaves that are more heart-shaped. Specifically, like the Heart-leaf Philodendron shape. Additionally, Lemon Lime’s leaves are thinner with a slightly softer texture. Neon Pothos have leaves that are generally larger and thicker. Furthermore, Neon Pothos leaves are also waxier to the touch.
Moreover, with her golden-lime leaves, the Philodendron Lemon Lime will tolerate lower light than other philodendrons. But, give her brighter light and she’ll reward you with more of those gorgeous blush-gold baby leaves during growing season. Furthermore, keep her out of direct sunlight though or she’ll sunburn.

The Philodendron micans looks just like the heartleaf philodendron as well. But, its leaves are darker green in color. Sometimes even burgundy. In fact, new growth starts off pink, maturing into a dark, coppery-green. Additionally, leaves have a velvety texture to them. Not only are the leaves soft to the touch, but they also shimmer in the right light. Prefers medium to bright indirect light. Furthermore, it makes a gorgeous trailing plant, growing up to 2 feet tall.
Brasil Philodendron is green with yellow lime variegation in it that is not always consistent. More often the variegation comes in from the middle. In fact, sometimes they’ll get leaves that are completely lemon-lime and narrow. The Philodendron Brasil has a very specific variegation that is not like any pothos. However, the leaf shape does somewhat resemble a pothos plant.

The Philodendron Birkin is a hybrid of Philodendron Congo and Philodendron Imperial Green.  Also, commonly known as White Wave. Leaves are glossy green with white or bright yellow striped variegation. Additionally, each leaf on Philodendron Birkin is one of a kind with its own unique variegation pattern. Furthermore, White wave prefers bright indirect light.

Gigas Philodendron

The Philodendron Gigas ( pronounced JY-gas or GEE-gas) is a native of Panama. Popular for its soft, velvety texture. First, oval leaves emerge in a copper or olive color with light green veins. Next, they turn a luscious, dark green color as they mature. Additionally, her gorgeous green leaves have a metallic iridescent sheen.
In the right conditions the beauty can grow quite large. Furthermore, leaves elongate as they mature and grow almost heart-shaped. Finally, give this climbing philodendron a moss pole for support and watch her shine.
Philodendron Gigas
An original sport of the Brasil Philodendron. Named “Rio” after the city in Brazil by Gabriella Plants. Its variegation is a bright silver and white that comes from the center instead of the lemon-lime.
Philodendron Gabby or philodendron cream splash looks exactly like the philodendron Brasil. But instead of the lemon-lime variegation, it has white or cream variegation on the leaves. Specifically sold and cultivated by Gabriella Plants.
